Overview

Sri Patibandla Sitaramaiah High School, a landmark institution and pride of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, enjoys fame and a glorious legacy of 6 decades by virtue of blessing the society with renowned alumni who carved a niche for themselves in myriad and diverse professional fields with the help of a treasure trove of knowledge they acquired before leaving the portals of this hallowed institution.

Based on the ever evolving pedagogical philosophies and keeping the professional interests of our students and the dreams and aspirations of their parents in mind, the school in a paradigm shift switched over to the CBSE based Curriculum. Necessary affiliation process was completed and the academic session 2021-22 ushered in a new era at SPSHS. Our singular aim is to provide a common platform and ground of equal footing to all our students to succeed when they appear for competitive exams like UPSC, JEE, NEET, NDA, AFCAT etc conducted by the Government ; the syllabi of which are fully based on CBSE curriculum and NCERT books.

The School management committee is also sanguine that in the ensuing years and next phase, a child getting admission to Nursery, will pass out from the school after successful completion of grade XII.

Developing well rounded individuals: Our thought process

Academics and related facets

Catch them young and give personal attention to each child to develop in them the under mentioned:-

  • School readiness – Willingness to come to school and come out of excessive dependency on parental care.
  • Language and Cognitive skills – Power of expression and IQ development.
  • Social and Emotional Development – Adaptability and Self reliance.
  • Academics – Will to learn and acquire maximum knowledge in curriculum based subjects. Intrinsic to the initial learning at the nursery to grade V level at SPSHS is the emphasis to develop qualities like, good hand writing, regular reading and uninhibited verbal communication in any forum.
  • Physical fitness and mental robustness – Healthy body and mind.
  • Self Confidence – Common to both academic excellence and personality development.

Soft Skills, Personality Development and related facets

Self Confidence is an attribute gained by an individual who is groomed with a balanced “Learning Diet” of Curricular, Co-Curricular and Extra- Curricular activities. The ingredients are as under:-

  • Effective Communication( Main focus on English, leading to overall proficiency in expressing one’s self ) :-
    1. Creation of an English speaking atmosphere.
    2. Immediate correction mechanism in case of faults.
    3. Inculcate the habit of thinking in English while speaking in English and avoid translating it mentally from the vernacular.
    4. Reading English news papers and story books.
    5. Watching English based entertainment channels on TV.
    6. Creation of a buddy group for exchange of thoughts in English, after school hours.
    7. At SPSHS we organise, inter house debates and declamations as well as book reviews and public speaking during morning assembly time. “Lend me your ears” a speaking session on pre-prepared topics is conducted on a daily basis for all the classes in rotation.
  • General Awareness – Besides reading the newspapers and listening to the daily news bulletins in the assembly, the children at SPSHS participate in general knowledge inter house Quiz competitions and are often exposed to guest speakers who give them insight into a wide range of topics, thus making them worldly wise.
  • Leadership Qualities – The new school session starts with the investiture ceremony of the student appointments. The aim is to develop leadership qualities in the children during this formative stage so that it will stand them in good stead in the later part of their life. Cooperation, Coordination, Decision making, Organising ability, Motivation and setting an example for others to follow; all these attributes form part of making a good leader.
  • Physical Fitness – Compulsory games period from 4 PM to 5 PM is a routine activity. Adequate infrastructure exists within our 3.5 acre campus. Regular inter house tournaments are conducted for both indoor and outdoor games. Tiny Tots have a separately enclosed play zone where the teachers continuously monitor their activities with “safety first” attitude.
  • Discipline – [Self Discipline] – Drill is the bedrock of discipline. Self discipline is the basic foundation on which an individual’s success depends. NCC JD Wing, with an initial vacancy of 50 cadets was raised on 15 Nov 2021, under the aegis of 25(A) Bn NCC, Guntur. The campus now reverberates with the sounds of the drill instructors’ commands and orders. The school NCC contingent in its full ceremonial regalia is a sight to behold on special parade days. We have written to the competent authority for raising the vacancies to 100 from the ensuing academic session. We insist on self discipline in children and believe it is more effective in the long run in comparision to forced discipline.
  • Social Etiquettes – The director of the school addresses the children on a regular basis, collectively in the assembly, class wise or housewise and also in small groups randomly and speaks to them on the subject at length. Aim is to groom children and mould them into socially amiable people in the long run.

Remarks: Pertinent to note that for all the additional activities besides academics, no regular classes are disturbed. Out of a total of Nine (9) periods, Seven (7) are academic periods of which Five (5) are pre- lunch and Two (2) post –lunch. Of the balance two, One (1) is earmarked for completion of Class and Home works at the school itself, thus relieving the children off academic over strain at home and the balance One (1) period is for hobbies. One hour games session from 4 PM to 5 PM is a regular affair. The last Two (2) periods are also utilised for conducting Co- Curricular activities and Inter house competitions like debates, declamations and dramatics.

Our best teaching and learning practices/processes, methodology and pedagogical innovations conform to the standards and directions set/given by the CBSE.

Health and Physical Education

We at SPSHS believe in the adage “Healthy Bodies – Sharp Minds”. Compulsory games period of one hour from 4 PM to 5 PM ensures the students have fun after a rigorous day of academic dispensation. Necessary courts and sports paraphernalia exist in the 3.5 acre campus. Children take part in Inter house competitions within the school, and also those that are organised by outside agencies in the form of open tournaments.

Special Tiny Tots exclusive play Zone and enclosure with various rides/stations gives them ample opportunity to have recreation at the end of the day under close monitoring by the teachers. “Learning is fun”, so feel our newly schooled children.

Indoor games hall is another feature at SPSHS where by rotation all classes partake in the activities during the evening sports time. Competitions are organised for indoor games too.
